A built-in dog bed for the kitchen you already have
Dog beds take up floor space you haven't got. They get kicked, tripped over, and never look right wherever you put them. A built-in dog bed from a kitchen company solves it — but only as part of a full renovation costing thousands.
Our kitchen cabinet dog bed is a finished insert that slides straight into a standard base unit you already own. Take the doors off, slide it in, and your dog has a proper den at floor level — part of the room, out of the way, and off the floor plan.
It works just as well as a utility room dog bed or a boot room dog bed, and nothing is cut or drilled, so it comes straight back out whenever you want.
Sizes and internal dimensions
Built to suit standard UK base units from 600mm to 1000mm wide. Every size is available with or without a drawer above for leads, towels and treats.

Depth is 475mm across every size. Dogs sleep curled in the bed rather than stretched flat — which is how most dogs prefer to sleep in a den space, but worth knowing before you choose.

Use the tables below as a starting point, then measure your own dog. Sizes assume a dog lying curled in its usual sleeping position.

With a drawer — 460mm internal height
Please read this before choosing a drawer version. The drawer reduces internal height to 460mm. That suits dogs measuring under roughly 40cm at the shoulder. Taller breeds will have to duck to get in and won't be able to stand or turn comfortably, so the drawer options are best kept to smaller and lower-set dogs regardless of cabinet width.

Dogs over roughly 45kg — Great Dane, Newfoundland, St Bernard, Bernese Mountain Dog, Mastiff — are not suited to any size in this range.

The breed guides above are a guide only. Dogs of the same breed vary enormously, crossbreeds vary more, and we have no way of knowing the size, shape or sleeping habits of your dog.
Before ordering, please measure both of the following:
- Your dog — lying down in its usual sleeping position, plus shoulder height standing
- Your cabinet — internal width and internal depth, not the door size
Every insert is made to order in the size and finish you choose. For that reason we're unable to accept returns on the basis that a dog does not fit the bed, will not use it, or that the insert does not suit a cabinet that was measured incorrectly. Please check both measurements carefully.
If you're unsure which size to choose, message us with your dog's breed and measurements and the internal size of your cabinet before you order. We'll give you an honest answer — we would far rather talk you into a different size than have you order the wrong one.
This does not affect your statutory rights in respect of goods that are faulty or not as described.
Finishes available
Available in Oak and Brown Warmia Walnut throughout, or these woodgrains paired with Fir Green, White, Indigo and more. Colour matching to your existing cabinetry is available on request — send us a photo and the range name and we'll tell you what's possible.
How it's made
Cut, edged and finished in our own workshop in Greater Manchester on CNC and industrial edgebanding equipment, from MFC decor board — the same panel material used in fitted kitchens. It wipes clean, stands up to daily use and holds its finish.
We're a working joinery and panel manufacturer with over fourteen years in the trade. Every slide-in pet bed insert is made in Britain to order — not sourced, not resold.
Ordering and delivery
Made to order
Each insert is built to the cabinet size and finish you select. Please allow up to 3 weeks during busy periods. If you need it sooner, get in touch before ordering and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Flat-packed delivery
Your insert arrives flat-packed by standard courier, so it comes through the door and up the stairs without a pallet, a tail-lift or a day waiting in. Everything needed to build it is included.
Assembly
One screwdriver, no joinery skills. Once built, it slides straight into your existing cabinet.
Collection
Collection is available from our workshop at Alma Works, Station Yard, Dukinfield SK16 4SE, near Manchester.
Made to measure
If your cabinet falls outside the standard sizes above, we can build to your dimensions. Message us with the internal width, depth and height and we'll quote.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my kitchen?
If your base units are standard UK sizes between 600mm and 1000mm wide, yes. Measure the internal width and depth of the cabinet before ordering and message us if you're unsure.
Will it damage my kitchen?
No. Nothing is cut or drilled. Remove the existing doors and hinges, keep them safe, and slide the insert in. The kitchen reverses to standard in minutes, which makes this one of the few genuine kitchen upgrades available to renters.
What size dog will fit?

Is a cushion or mattress included?
No, we do not currently offer cushions. Those in the images were for illustration purposes only. We recommend a made to order Foam Piece for a snug fit.
Can I use it in a utility room or boot room?
Yes. Utility and boot room runs use the same standard cabinet sizes as kitchens.
How long does it take?

It fits because your kitchen is standard
Every UK kitchen is built from the same modules. That's the whole trick.
Base units come in fixed widths — 600mm, 700mm, 800mm, 900mm and 1000mm — at 720mm high and around 560 to 570mm deep. Howdens, Wren, Wickes, B&Q, Magnet, a local fitter: they all work to the same sizes.
Our kitchen cabinet dog bed is built to those exact modules. Unscrew the doors and hinges from the unit you want to use, keep them somewhere safe, and the insert slides into the empty carcase. The cabinet does the structural work. The insert lines it, finishes it, and turns it into a den.
Nothing is cut. Nothing is drilled. No part of your kitchen is altered — which is why the whole thing undoes in ten minutes.
Where should it go?
Usually an end-of-run base unit, where your dog can see the room without being underfoot.
In the kitchen
An end-of-run unit, an island end, or the cabinet nearest the door your dog already sleeps by. Avoid anything next to the oven.
In a utility room
The most popular choice. A utility room dog bed keeps mud, hair and wet paws out of the kitchen while your dog stays somewhere warm and central.
In a boot room
A boot room dog bed sits naturally alongside coat storage and welly racks, right where your dog comes in from a walk.
Under a worktop run
The insert sits below the worktop like any other unit, so the surface above stays usable.
If your dog already has a favourite corner, use the cabinet closest to it. Dogs take to a new bed far more readily when it's somewhere they've already chosen.
Will my dog actually fit?
The question everyone asks first. Here's the honest answer, then measure your own dog.

Not included — a cushion, bed or mattress. The cushions in our photographs show how the finished bed looks in use; they aren't supplied with the insert.

Same board, same machines, same workshop as the fitted kitchens we make.
18mm MFC decor board — melamine-faced chipboard, the panel material used throughout fitted kitchens. Chosen here for a reason: it wipes clean, resists scratching, and doesn't absorb moisture from wet fur the way untreated timber would.
Every edge is finished with colour-matched ABS edgebanding on our industrial edgebander, so there are no raw edges to chip, swell or catch.

Oak throughout, or Oak paired with Fir Green, White or Indigo — chosen to sit alongside the door colours most common in UK kitchens.

Wet paws, muddy fur, no problem
Wipe down with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, and don't leave standing water against the edges.
Because the insert lifts out, you can take the whole thing outside for a proper clean once or twice a year — something you can't do with a bed that's been fitted permanently.

One screwdriver, no joinery skills. Instead of a sheet of ambiguous diagrams we've filmed the whole build, start to finish. Your video comes with your order, so you can pause it, rewind it and watch it on your phone while you work.

Questions we get asked
Will it damage my kitchen?

Will my dog actually use it?
Most dogs take to an enclosed den quickly, especially if you move their existing bedding into it and put it somewhere they already like to lie. Give it a few days rather than expecting it on the first night.
Can two dogs share one?
In the larger sizes, often yes — two small dogs will happily share a 900mm or 1000mm. Two medium dogs won't.
Can I take it with me if I move?
Yes. It slides out, and as long as your next kitchen has a standard base unit the same width, it slides straight back in.
