Why Choose Wide Frame Solid Wood Shaker Doors?

A wide frame is what most people picture when they imagine a classic shaker kitchen. The 93mm border around the centre panel gives a bolder, more pronounced outline than the slimmer frames found on many contemporary doors, so the door reads as properly traditional from across the room.

The frames are solid timber, not painted board. The painted colours use solid ash shaker kitchen doors construction, while the oak finish uses a solid oak frame, so you get real joinery you can see and feel. At 20mm thick, the doors also feel substantial in the hand.

We recommend this range for anyone who wants wide frame shaker kitchen doors with genuine timber craftsmanship, whether you are renovating a period kitchen or refreshing a family one.

Our Wide Frame Door Colours

Nine finishes are available:

Natural Wood

  • Oak – Clear-lacquered natural oak with visible grain. A warm, organic choice for farmhouse, country and Scandinavian-style kitchens.

Warm Neutrals

  • Ivory – A soft, creamy tone that keeps a room light and welcoming, and a classic partner for traditional schemes.
  • Porcelain – A soft off-white, gentler than pure white.
  • Taupe – A warm grey-brown that feels earthy, calm and easy to live with.

Greys

  • Light Grey – A fresh, easy grey that brightens a kitchen without feeling stark.

Greens and Blue-Greens

  • Fir Green – A deep, traditional green with real country-kitchen character.
  • Reed Green – A muted, natural green that sits between soft and deep.
  • Fjord – A cool, sea-inspired blue-green.

Bold Statement

  • Indigo – A rich navy that gives the wide frame real drama.

Construction & Quality

Five-Piece Solid Timber Frame – Every frame is made from solid hardwood: ash for the painted colours and oak for the oak finish. This is traditional cabinet-making, not painted board.

Veneered Centre Panel – The flat centre panel is a timber veneer on a stable core, giving the look of real wood while avoiding the movement that solid wood panels can suffer.

93mm Rails and Stiles – The wide border creates the bold proportions associated with classic country and farmhouse kitchens.

20mm Thickness – Thicker than many standard kitchen doors, for a solid, quality feel.

Matt Painted Finish – On the painted colours, a matt finish leaves the ash grain softly visible.

Lacquered Oak Finish – The oak doors carry a clear lacquer that protects the timber and shows off its natural grain.

Chamfered Edges – Every edge is chamfered on both faces, a neat detail that softens each door.

6.8mm Panel Depth – The flat centre panel is set 6.8mm deep, creating the classic shaker shadow line.

What Door Sizes Are Available?

There are 47 sizes across the range, so most standard UK cabinets are covered:

Door heights: 450mm, 490mm, 495mm, 570mm, 645mm, 715mm, 895mm, 980mm, 1245mm, 1425mm and 1965mm, in widths from 147mm up to 596mm.

Oven Filler: 110 x 596mm.

Larder Doors: one-piece doors at 1965mm tall, in four widths.

Glazed Doors: five sizes with clear glass, for display cabinets.

Curved Doors: three heights, made for external curves.

Drilling is optional on every size.

What Handle Styles Suit Wide Frame Doors?

The broad, traditional frame suits classic hardware, and it can carry larger handles than a slimmer shaker would.

Traditional Country: antique brass or pewter cup handles.

Heritage: aged bronze or oil-rubbed finishes for period-style kitchens.

Warm Contemporary: brushed brass or gold, particularly striking on indigo or fir green.

Classic Simplicity: brushed nickel or chrome knobs.

Rustic Character: black iron handles for farmhouse and country looks.

Wide Frame or Slim Frame: Which Should I Choose?

Both are quality solid wood shaker kitchen doors, and the choice mostly comes down to the look you want.

Choose a wide frame if you want:

  • Bold, traditional shaker proportions with a 93mm frame
  • A pronounced shadow line and plenty of presence
  • Natural oak as an option
  • Heritage greens and deep blues that look rich on a broad border

Choose a slimmer frame if you want:

  • A lighter, more contemporary outline
  • A subtler, more refined appearance

Oak: A Natural Wood Finish

Oak brings natural timber colour to the range, and it sits happily within the oak and painted shaker kitchen doors on this page. It has a solid oak frame with visible grain, a clear lacquer that protects the timber, and a warm, organic character that paint cannot copy. Oak works beautifully on its own, or on the base units with painted wall cabinets above for a two-tone look.

Frequently Asked Questions

1: How does a 93mm frame compare with a slimmer shaker frame?

It is noticeably wider, which gives a bolder outline and a more traditional look. Slimmer frames look lighter and more contemporary, so choose by the style of kitchen you want.

2: Are these doors solid wood or MDF?

The frames are solid timber: ash for the painted colours and oak for the oak finish. The centre panel is a timber veneer on a stable core, so these are not MDF doors.

3: Can I see the wood grain through the paint?

Yes. The matt painted finish leaves a subtle ash grain visible, which adds warmth and depth that a flat painted board lacks.

4: Is oak a good choice for a kitchen?

Yes. Oak is a hard-wearing timber that has been used in kitchens for centuries, and the clear lacquer protects the surface. As with any timber, wipe spills away promptly.

5: Will these doors fit my existing cabinets?

Most standard UK cabinets are covered by the 47 sizes. Measure your existing doors, height first and then width, and choose the nearest listed size, so you can replace the doors without replacing the cabinets.

6: How quickly can I get these doors?

Most doors dispatch within 1 to 3 working days. For larger orders, call us on 0161 465 4007 to confirm availability before you order.
