A deep blue kitchen looks most complete when the plinth, cornice and end panels are in exactly the same colour as the doors. Here, each component is wrapped in the same inky blue and textured grain as the doors, so nothing breaks the colour at the top, bottom or sides of the units. An indigo kitchen plinth and cornice frame the cabinets from floor to wall top, giving the room a finished, built-in look that feels considered rather than assembled. It is a small detail that makes a surprisingly big difference to how finished the room feels.
Each kitchen unit end panel is 18mm thick and made to cover the open side of a cabinet. The 780 x 355mm and 960 x 355mm panels finish standard and tall wall units, the 910 x 600mm panel suits base units and islands, and the 2350 x 650mm panel covers larders and oven housings. All can be trimmed on site. Beneath the base units, an ogee kitchen plinth gives a shaped, decorative top edge, while the standard 150mm plinth keeps a clean, simple line along the floor.
Indigo end panels are especially useful on an island, where both ends are on show and a bare cabinet side would stand out against the deep blue. Above the wall units, a blue kitchen cornice in the classic or square bullnose profile completes the frame. For a dresser or range cooker area, the barrel pilaster and the radius rail with its classic or square bullnose caps add a little traditional character.
