Measuring for Handles: Getting the Right Fit
Getting the sizing right is the most important step when choosing cupboard door handles. This comes down to hole centres, the distance between the two screw holes drilled into your cabinet door or drawer front, not the overall length of the handle itself.
To measure existing handles, use a tape measure to find the distance from the centre of one screw hole to the centre of the other, always in millimetres. If you're fitting handles to brand new doors, check the drilling pattern specified by your door supplier before ordering.
The most common sizes for kitchen cupboard handles are 96mm, 128mm, and 160mm, covering the majority of wall units, base cabinets, and standard doors. Wider drawers and larder units often call for 192mm or 320mm handles for better proportion and a more comfortable grip. Single-hole kitchen cabinet knobs offer the most flexibility of all, since they only need one fixing point and will suit almost any door size.
If your existing holes fall between standard sizes, or you're switching from a knob to a bar handle, you may need to drill new holes; our team can talk you through the options. Not sure what you need? Call us on 0161 465 4007 and we'll help you work it out.
